The “scene” is a community of release groups that publish content such as music, movies, TV series, games, applications and ebooks. Releases follow strict naming and packaging rules, so the same release looks the same wherever it appears.
A release group (also called a “crew”) is a team that produces and publishes releases. Every release name ends
with a dash and the name of the group. In Friday.The.13th.2009.POLiSH.720p.WEB.H264-CHOPiN the group is
CHOPiN. Groups compete on speed, quality and reliability.
A “race” is the competition between groups to be the first to release the same content. When a new movie, album or game becomes available, several groups may try to release it as fast as possible. The winner is the group whose release appears first. Speed matters, but so does quality: a fast release with a bad rip is quickly replaced by a better one from another group.
On this site, the time of a PRE shows when a release was first announced, so you can see how fast a group was compared to others.
A topsite is a high-speed, usually closed server that serves as a central hub for the scene. Groups upload their releases to topsites, and the releases are then distributed from there to other sites. Access is restricted: topsites are invite-only, require an account and enforce their own rules. Many topsites also rank groups by how fast and how reliably they deliver, so being on a top list is a sign of reputation.
Topsites are not public and nothing on this site is taken from them. This site only lists the names and information of releases that are announced in public channels.
A name describes the content in a fixed order: title, year, language, resolution, source, codec and group.
